Three of Detroit's professional sports teams have provided positive support to the children and youth at Don Bosco Hall. The Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Pistons have all been involved with providing a helping hand to our kids. Defensive tackle, Shawn Rogers, of the Detroit Lions, donated season tickets to 20 needy Don Bosco Hall youth. The Detroit Tigers continued to sponsor Willie Horton's “Batting for Kids”. Proceeds from this event go to support the youth programs at Don Bosco Hall. Through the Detroit Tigers Foundation, many Don Bosco Hall youth were able to attend many of the Detroit Tigers games at Comerica Park. Detroit Piston forward, Jarvis Hayes, visited one of Don Bosco Hall's group homes during the Christmas holiday. After his visit with the guys, he left a generous donation to help purchase holiday gifts.

Jazzy Evening was a Wonderful Success!!
Grammy Award Winning jazz guitarist Earl Klugh came home to Detroit to perform for Don Bosco Hall’s 10th Annual Jazzy Benefit. But his home coming was not just a one night show. Earl joined local jazz Saxophonist Randy Scott a day early, for a rehearsal to put the finishing touches on Birney Middles School performance. The students had been rehearsing for over a month and were slated to be the opening act. Randy Scott, the band’s teacher said, "As a professional, I feel that it is my duty to show our youth particularly those who are troubled – that success… is a product of hard work and determination. The prospect of performing with Klugh helped me reach my students on a different level." Klugh said "when I found out about the concept that Don Bosco Hall wanted to put together, I jumped at the opportunity, because I love working with children." Music keeps a lot of kids out of trouble. They get to be creative and music is a good thing to do.

The students quickly learned that their hard work and determination paid off. Together with Randy Scott and Earl Klugh the students performed the songs “Swing Machine” and “Bliss” to a sold out crowd at the Ford community and Performing Arts Theater.
Klugh went on to marvel the crowd with spectacular jazz. The show ended with an exhilarating performance by Earl’s swing dancers. One guest stated; “This was more than a concert it was a production. Wow! What a show”.
This year’s concert benefit offered yet another vehicle for people to see children finding their greatness and eliminating barriers. An exhibition was presented during the pre-reception, featuring art from approximately 30 students who are in an After-School program that Don Bosco Hall does in collaboration with the College of Creative Studies in Detroit.

Charles Small said “this has been an exciting year for us. Ford Motor Company continues to support us in a big way. They send volunteers; they provide all kinds of support. There is also so many other community leaders that just step up to help our kids. We honored Flagstar Bank with a corporate commitment award. They provided volunteers and other resources that enhance the quality of life among the families and youth that we serve.” The fundraiser most important objective is to raise awareness. Marx Layne & Company helped Don Bosco Hall to get the word out. The Mitch Albom show called and said Mitch wanted to get his old friend Earl Klugh on his show. Public ticket sales were just extraordinary this year.
